October is Women's Health Month

Daughter, sister, friend, mother, aunt, breadwinner, wife, partner, homemaker, family "doctor."  With the many roles you play, it's not always easy to find the time and energy to take care of yourself.  This month is a perfect reminder for women to make their health a priority and build positive health habits for life. 

 

Getting all of your recommended health screenings and living a healthy lifestyle can reduce your risk of preventable diseases — and help keep you feeling and looking your best at every age.  This also means paying attention to your mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress and practicing safe behaviors, such as quitting smoking and not texting while driving.  So, seize the days and take care of the whole you and live your life to the fullest.  The little things you do every day add up to a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally.

Food For Thought

This month's recipe is Cumin Cauliflower Rice , which is a delicious and healthy substitute for the real thing – rice!  For people who are reducing their carbohydrate intake, such as following a ketogenic or Paleo diet, or trying to increase their intake of vegetables, cauliflower rice is a great option.  You can eat it any way you eat rice — plain, spiced, for a grain salad or grain bowl, or as a base for fried “rice.” 

 

Cauliflower is a cruciferous vegetable that is naturally high in fiber and an excellent source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.  It's also low in calories with only 25-calories per cup, so you can eat a lot without the guilt.  So skip the rice and try Cumin Cauliflower Rice.  It's tasty, easy to prepare, and healthy for you!
